Koroit & District Primary School have been a Big Life School since 2019.
A Big Life is a unique & special partnership between the Warrnambool Student Wellbeing Association (WSWA) and the Department of Education & Training (DET).
The aim of the program is to build student, staff, and parent capacity to manage the ups and downs of life. A Big Life does this by developing whole of school routines & common language, providing professional development for staff, developing curriculum resources, and engaging with parents and carers.
Some of the topics that are taught in Big Life and are interwoven across all aspects of learning at Koroit & District Primary School include:
- The Zones of Regulation – organising our feelings, states of alertness, and energy levels into four coloured Zones – Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red
- Positive Coping Strategies
- Anxiety – learning about what our ‘amygdala’ is and how we can differentiate between ‘scary safe’ & ‘scary dangerous’ situations
- Respectful Relationships
- Kindness
- Gratitude
- Brain Breaks
- Breathing exercises
