KDPS has combined Cultural Education and Sustainability to create ECO-Connections.
LOTE @ KDPS
Koroit and District Primary School celebrate our links to the land on which we are located. Our children have the opportunity to be immersed in Indigenous Culture through stories, language experience, role plays and are led by a highly experienced cultural teacher.
The F-6 LOTE curriculum also tackles age-appropriate topics that often divide societies, such as diversity and racism, learning how respect, empathy, and understanding differences can create safe and inclusive spaces for our students at school and people everywhere.
Sustainability
We have a wonderful vegetable garden and orchard at Koroit and District Primary School. Students regularly plant, weed, compost, care for and harvest our produce during Eco Connections and selected Inquiry units in classrooms. We often cook with our produce or distribute excess to families in our KDPS community. Our Garden Team runs each Thursday lunchtime and is open to anyone who wishes to help out in the garden, pat the chooks or chat with the ducks who help keep our garden snail-free! At KDPS we believe that being in nature is very important. These garden programs provide students with the opportunity to learn;
- new language to describe foods
- explore plants using their 5 senses.
- use maths to measure and weigh
- to work as a team
- to develop greater self-confidence
- to develop awareness of the environment, sustainability and plant diversity.
